Opening May lOng Weekend
Know before you go
Tours
All tours are guided experiences. Tours depart at scheduled times, so we kindly ask you to book your tour in advance. Please anticipate that your tour will last approximately one hour. A helmet and light will be provided for you, so there's no need to bring your own. While we accept walk-ins, please be aware that we may not be able to accommodate you on the next available tour.
Accessiblity
Our tour building and tunnel are for both wheelchairs and strollers. The tunnel features a natural, uneven floor. The tour area is on one level, with no changes in elevation. Please note that the tunnel has low lighting.
Dress accordingly
The mine's interior stays at a relatively stable temperature of 4 degrees Celsius (39 degrees Fahrenheit) with approximately 86% humidity. Although it may feel like a break from the summer heat, it will quickly turn chilly (we're talking to you Canadians). You'll be inside for an hour, so we suggest wearing pants, socks, and a jacket. If you come for tour without suitable clothing, you might be advised to reschedule.
Pets
Animals are welcome on premises, but they are not allowed in the tunnel. Service dogs with proper documentation from an approved certification organization are permitted. We kindly that all dogs remain leashed and that you clean up after your pets.
Food and Drink
Food and drink are welcome on site, but due to the animals in the area we ask that you do not bring them into the tunnel with you.
How far is the tour?
The tour will take you 1,000 feet (300 meters) horizontally into the mine, but at the end of the tour (by the fenced off region) you are technically only 150 feet below the surface. The Bellevue Mine has an overall horizontal distance of 5.6 kilometres with a total of 240 kilometres of combined tunnel distance. Unfortunately, the area beyond the 1,000 feet of the tour is unsafe and unmaintained. There has been a significant amount of slumping, collapsing, and rotting making it impossible to access all 240 kilometres of the mine.
Photography
Yes! Photographs are allowed and work best with flash. However, we ask that you do not film the tour without prior approval.
